Meridian Therapy
Meridian therapy was developed in Japan in the mid 1930's largely by Sodo Okab and Keiri Inoue, both of whom studied with Sorei Yanagiya. Yanagiya was an acupuncturist who reexamined the classical texts of acupuncture during the 1910's-20's revival of Kampo (traditional herbal medicine based on the Shang Han Lun). Meridian Therapy is the name used by those who practice the principle of Acupuncture without using penetrating needles. There are many techniques to stimulate an acupoint on a meridian other than with a needle. Methods employed include pressure massage, electric impulse, laser, and magnets. Meridian therapy is an important treatment modality. It uses the meridian system and gives diagnostic information for other forms of treatment. There are many different methods and associations of meridian therapy in use today. All methods are effective for stimulating the flow of healing energy in the body and promoting self-healing.
